Chernobyl

I watched an interesting program a few weeks ago about the Chernobyl disaster. Details can be found here but the gist of it is that there were only 56 deaths directly attributable to the event (compared to 100,000 predicted by Greenpeace) and the majority of those were people who worked on the cleanup squad.

One very interesting fact was that a 10 year study of animals living near to the site seemed to suggest that low levels of radiation can help boost the genes that protect us against cancer.
